The Duval County School Board is searching for a new superintendent after firing Joseph Wise. The board had brought in Wise, a Jacksonville native, from Delaware just two years ago. While Wise increased the number of students taking AP courses, FCAT scores didn’t improve during his tenure, and the reading gap between white and black third-graders grew. But the Florida Times-Union reported that arrogance may have been Wise’s ultimate downfall. “I think Joey was very talented, but he had very poor people skills,” Jacksonville education philanthropist Fred Schultz told the paper. “He did not listen very well.”
